Tennis Players in Underwear and Swimwear

On Monday, the 2013 tennis season truly began as the sport’s elite gathered in Melbourne for the Australian Open. The tournament continues through January 27th as Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novac Djokovic vie for the first Grand Slam trophy of the year. Will their dominance of the sport continue into 2013, or will this be the first year since 2009 in which a player outside of the top four wins a major? To celebrate the start of the season, we put together a list of our 10 favorite photos of tennis players in underwear and swimwear. Whether you’re a tennis fan or just an underwear aficionado, we think you’ll enjoy this gallery of both current and past athletes.

10. Novak Djokovic

The current world number one and Serbian hero is known for his goofball antics and crowd-pleasing displays. He took part in a runway show in which he stripped down to a pair of briefs.

9. Michael Llodra

Doubles player, Michael Llodra, also stripped down to his briefs after a 2004 title victory in Australia.

8. Andy Murray

World number three Andy Murray had no problem showing off his underwear to the crowd or to the smirking female player who’s obviously trying not to look.

7. Andy Roddick

The American champion and former world number one retired last year. We will miss him dearly. We dug up this photo of a young Roddick in a floral swim suit.

6. Arnaud Clement

Arnaud Clement shows off some Björn Borg briefs. A tennis player wearing a tennis player’s underwear brand? What a world.

5. Fernando Verdasco

Calvin Klein made good use of Fernando Verdasco’s athletic body and handsome features for a sizzling underwear campaign.

4. Filippo Volandri

Filippo Volandri shows off a swim brief and the body of a professional. The Italians do it right.

3. Janko Tipsarevic

He might be the Serbian number two in tennis, but he’s number one in modeling. Janko Tipsarevic shows Djokovic how it’s done in this campaign for Extreme Intimo.

2. Pat Rafter

Former tennis player Pat Rafter is seen here working as the spokesmodel of Bonds.

1. Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal is still benched thanks to a pair of injured knees, but we had to put this Emporio Armani campaign at the top of our list. Armani underwear is fit for royalty, and the king of clay is the perfect face for the brand.
