Ian Mellencamp (yes, that’s John Mellencamp’s nephew) continues to find success as a model – he is now fronting a new Diesel Spring/Summer campaign. With a winning smile, a pitcher of milk and a blender full of bright-red strawberries, Mellencamp appears to embody Diesel’s slogan, “For Successful Living.” He’s wearing a distressed leather jacket and printed boxer briefs with a rockstar’s attitude.
Mellencamp has been making an effort to own his name with high-profile campaigns such as Calvin Klein’s spring 2011 series. In an interview with Soapbox Media, Mellencamp said that he was unsure if his relation to the singer has helped his career.
“Sometimes people know and randomly make a comment. I can’t be sure. It might help. I went to one of his concerts at Radio City Music Hall with Meg Ryan [John Mellencamp’s girlfriend] earlier this year. That could be good if I’m dabbling in acting. I’d like to transfer from modeling to acting if I can.”
With a new Diesel campaign under his belt, Ian Mellencamp is increasing his mainstream exposure and opening up new opportunities for acting. That being said, if he were to land a major role in a film, it’s much more likely that he would be labeled as “John Mellencamp’s nephew,” than “the model from the Diesel campaign.”
