Luxury underwear retailer Hanro of Switzerland is set to open its first U.S. store in Manhattan’s blossoming Meatpacking District this fall, according to WWD.
Luxury retailers Nicholas Kirkwood, Christian Louboutin, Intermix, and even Sephora and Kiehl’s, have flocked to the burgeoning fashion district to capitalize on the traffic from The High Line, an elevated railroad track turned park that shadows the Meatpacking District and stretches north for two miles.
According to WWD, “The 900-square-foot space is located at 806 Washington Street in a landmark building developed for retail which is ensconced underneath the former High Line railroad tracks.” In an interview with the fashion magazine, Jan Snodgrass, president of Hanro USA, said “If you look up you can see the superstructure of a 20-foot high ceiling with the original High Line beams which will be prominently featured as the ceiling of the boutique” and also cited the historical setting as “perfect” to showcase the brands luxury innerwear for men and women.
The 128-year-old brand is “developing a retail concept that will house its women’s collection of underwear, lingerie, sleepwear and robes, as well as men’s underwear, tops, sleepwear and robes” with a focus on “seasonal trends and assortments,” said Snodgrass.
The boutique will be designed by architect David Howell of DHD and will be “contemporary and fit in well with the ambience of the Meatpacking District,” Snodgrass told WWD.
With their premier U.S. store, Hanro anticipates reaching a “new customer” who represents “a new community of well-to-do younger people, not too young, but with very sophisticated tastes,” Snodgrass continued.
Hanro also has locations in Vienna, Munich and Beijing.
