No Shirt, No Shoes, No Waistband

Ever look at a pair of underwear with little to no waistband and think, ‘What a great style, but there is no way they can support all that junk inside my trunk’? Or perhaps you think they will sag and slide during the day? We at The Underwear Expert aim to find you the best pairs for your lifestyle, so trust us when we say you won’t miss that waistband.

Underwear without a waistband has several benefits for not only style but also comfort. If your typical styles feel at times like they are digging into your waist, creating an unfortunate muffin top you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, opt for a pair without a waistband that lets you breathe.

The style also offers a chic and modern take on traditional pairs with its simplistic take that says, less is definitely more. A pair without a waistband allows for more contouring at an area where contouring is not often thought about but is just as important. Who can resist comfortable underwear that hugs every curve of your body? With several of our favorite designers embracing the trend, you can find the style in all shapes and sizes from boxers to briefs and everything in between. Model Yotam Solomon shows off a few of our favorite examples in the photoshoot below.

A chic style in their own right, briefs are a style we can really get behind. The 2(X)IST Sliq Micro Brief features a wicking-enhanced microfiber fabric for cooling and dryness, an ultra-contour pouch for ultimate support and comfort, all in a low-rise waist that sits well below the hips, with high-cut leg room, minimal seams and contrast accent at the waistline. The Rufskin Luciano bikini cut style offers a similar style with contour seams throughout for comfort and fit. It’s crafted from an ultra soft rayon and spandex blended fabric that allows for optimal movement. N2N offers a simplistic, chic look with their Vintage Trunk. Crafted from an ultra-soft fabric and designed to have a worn in feel with a flattering cut that is guaranteed to be one of the most comfortable pairs in your wardrobe.

If you are more a traditional boxer kind of guy, Rufskin Sawyer Boxer Short offer a modern take on an old stand by for many, with the removal of a classic, thick waistband you would normally find in this style. This pair is made from a soft-as-butter cotton fabric in a slim cut that doesn’t bunch or constrict and is paired with a flexible waistline and binding at the leg openings for the ultimate comfortable pair. The Croota Aurora Seamless Boxer Brief gives you a look that is out of this world. Made from lightweight fabric, this pair offers a style that is perfect for an active life with a stretchable pouch if needed.

With so many waistband-less styles to choose from, you are sure to find a pair you love in your favorite cut.

I like several of the Rufskin items, but their reluctance to manufacture anything over a Large (32-34) prevents me from buying them. I am a true 34 waist, but have muscular glutes (a/k/a a big butt) so I’m afraid the 32-34 would be too tight across my behind. Or if my back fills space that was meant for the front, that’s an even worse situation. So hey – it’s their right to manufacture what they want (you featured another brand not long ago that does the same) but they are losing out on at least this customer! And while some people collect baseball cards, I collect underwear and am trying to get a pair from every brand I can. If I love what I get, I tend to continue to buy items from them….just ask Modus Vivendi!! Hey – maybe The Underwear Expert could save some of us a little time and effort and publish the size chart from the brands featured on this website. It would be a nice service that I’m sure wouldn’t take any more time then you’re already spending when you do a brand feature. Cheers!

David – thanks for your comments. We have all of the size charts internally and will review making them public. Have you checked out our Underwear of the Month Club yet?
