We should all go a little plaid sometimes. Plaid underwear is an easy way to add some flavor to your casual underwear line-up, no matter your personal style. It’s more bold than the average solid design, which trendier men can appreciate. It’s also one of the most – if not the most – masculine pattern around, which more reserved men will appreciate. And when it comes to the plaid underwear in our exclusive photoshoot below, we’re left thinking: lumberjack comes out of the woods, and into simple Fall fashion.
Model Matt Williams returns to show off 12 pairs of plaid underwear, and by default, those rock hard muscles of his. Where stylish approaches to plaid are concerned, red and blue reign supreme with some standard shades of grey thrown into the mix. These colors keep the classic aesthetic of plaid in check, and appeal to both loud and calm fashion sensibilities. Picture plaid underwear made purple or green. It’s almost guaranteed to come off as less conventional, and leaves the classic idea of “plaid” off to the side.
Keeping with the masculine aesthetic of plaid underwear, each pair of underwear Matt models is cut into a trunk or boxer brief style. A plaid brief would make sense for you trendier men, but not the more reserved men who see briefs as stereotypical “gay” underwear. And even we’d agree that a plaid thong would make little sense. Although that would still be interesting.
Another thing to look out for in our plaid underwear photoshoot is the waistbands on each. All 12 pairs go one of two ways. On one hand, there is plaid underwear designed with a contrasting black or white waistband, some of them with bold text. These come off as the more masculine pairs simply because it gives the underwear a more standard design. Other pairs go the stylish route by covering their waistbands with the plaid fabric. These designs bring the plaid pattern and colors to the forefront, and better yet, give those pairs a sleek and handsome finish.
