The official Pride Month is over, but 2015 may as well be Pride Year now that all 50 states have marriage equality. You can stop counting the places you’d move to, and start counting your pairs of gay pride underwear! In recognition of same-sex marriages, our latest photoshoot by Jerrad Matthew makes it rainbow all over model Jesse DiLiberti. He’s up against a wall in West Hollywood wearing nothing but his undies. It’s what The Underwear Expert calls being “undressed for the times.” And we blushingly recommend it.
Every gay man should have at least one pair of gay pride underwear in his drawer. Why wouldn’t he? Maybe he’s the kind of guy who’s out and proud, yet too reserved to go full rainbow. Lucky for him, not all pairs of gay pride underwear are all that “rainbow.” Most brands that release pride collections give them rainbow touches, and that’s it. For some guys this is enough. But if your pride look involves shorts, a tank top, and a healthy dose of glitter, you’re gonna want more color, and maybe even less fabric.
papi’s My Pride 2015 Collection came in solid colors with black waistbands and then put their brand name – in rainbow letters – off-center to the left. It’s more of a nod to your sexual preference rather than a breaking news announcement. Andrew Christian is, obviously, a lot gayer than papi. Their new pride collections had a lot more rainbow on the waistband and the brand’s token bright colors everyone else. But to be honest, anything Andrew Christian will fly at a pride event.
Only one of the pairs we give Jesse doesn’t have any rainbows on it. And maybe for good reason. Marriage equality is still being worked toward in Australia. So rather than release a pride collection, aussieBum released the Equality Line in partnership with Australian Marriage Equality. All proceeds of from the Equality Line go toward the organization. So celebrate the fact that love won here in America with gay pride underwear, or colorful rainbow pairs. But keep in mind, other countries are still waiting to be as accepted as we are.
How many pairs of gay pride underwear do you have in your collection? What did you wear, or will you wear, to your city’s Pride event? Let us know in the comments below, or by tweeting us @underwearexpert.
