By watching this Instagram video from Go Green, you can see that clapping push-ups are an explosive movement that builds strength while adding on muscle. Go Green combines these with back squats and chest-to-bar pull-ups. By the fourth set, the clapping push-ups were “killer.” But once they start to hurt, they really start to work.
Clapping push-ups require more strength than your average push-up because they are somewhat plyometric. By lifting yourself off the ground, you use a good deal of strength in your arms. Catching yourself will also prove to be strenuous the more reps of clapping push-ups you do. And if you combine clapping push-ups with the same two exercises as Go Green does in this video, your entire body will be sore, and your upper body will hurt so good.
