In this video, you see two men working out. One is doing a classic power clean. The other is dancing. And while both take some practice to get good at them, the power clean is an effective lift that — if done properly — is sure to give you the results you want. When it comes to power cleans, you’ll want to practice about three times a week, depending on how high of a priority muscle mass is to you. Technique is always important. Lifting something incorrectly is rarely beneficial, and can even be damaging. So if you want to practice a power clean, start with something light like a broom or just the bar without any weight on it. Once you get the motion down, muscle memory should kick in and make the lifts more comfortable. Not too comfortable though, because it’s true what they say: No pain, no gain. Another helpful tip is to keep your hips high. If you don’t feel a burn in your hamstrings, you are doing something wrong. You want to feel sore after power cleans. Sore is good. Sore is progress.
