Colombian-based underwear brand Mundo Unico recently announced plans to sharply increase sales over the next five years as it enters new markets in the United States, Europe and Latin America, according to a company representative. Carolina Kligman, Mundo Unico’s director of marketing, told Women’s Wear Daily that the company, which targets male consumers in their 20s to 40s, aims to raise sales to $15 million by 2017 from $6 million last year.
Founded 15 years ago, Mundo Unico strives to deliver the highest quality of underwear beyond Colombian borders. Apart from serving the national market, Mundo Unico’s largest foreign market is the United States. The brand hopes to enter Chicago and other large cities this year to expand its footprint beyond Miami and San Francisco. Additionally, the company plans to expand in Europe to take advantage of Colombia’s recent free trade agreement with the European Union.
Headquartered in Medellin, Colombia, Mundo Unico plans to compete with underwear heavyweights such as Calvin Klein Underwear and 2xist by offering “design, variety and innovation,” Kligman said. The announcement of the sales expansion coincides with the brand’s upcoming U.S. launch of its new Ser collection later this month. The brand previously released the Air collection last February in Colombia only. The brand also offers a swimwear line that includes fitted briefs and trunks.
