Archaeologists have discovered what they believe to be the oldest underwear in the world. The underwear find, originally found in 2008, includes four linen bras and a pair of men’s underwear. The garments were only recently authenticated and carbon dated; it appears they’re from almost 600 years ago (circa 1400.)
The men’s underwear does indeed look like women’s panties, but experts at the University of Innsbruck said it is definitely men’s underwear. Women, apparently, did not wear underwear under their skirts back then, and men’s underpants were considered a symbol of male dominance and power.
