Bum Chums offered The Underwear Expert a very early glimpse of their upcoming sports lines and we just had to share them–it’s not every day we get such an early look into the men’s underwear design process. The British brand will soon be launching two new ranges made with Supplex®, a hi-tech fabric, originally developed by scientists to provide both aesthetic and performance oriented benefits.
Supplex® is somewhat new to the industry and offers the feel of cotton with the benefits of advanced fiber technology. Similar to other moisture-wicking fabrics like Tencel and Coomax, it’s breathable, holds shape, dries faster than cotton and retains color. We expect to see a lot more of this fabric as performance technology becomes increasingly popular in everyday underwear!
Bum Chums is the first brand we’ve heard of to use it, so kudos to them. They’ll be releasing a hipster (trunk) and brief as part of their ranges next month and a sports-brief at a later time: all are promised to be “striking in appearance.”
They’ve kept “the lines simple but added some striking color accents” Creative Director Gareth Dickinson told The Underwear Expert. “We have also gone for a design with minimal waist elastic. This keeps the design simple, free from over embellishment and allows us to maximize the color accents while keeping the overall designs sporty and slim. The designs also allow us to use the new Supplex® fabric to maximum effect.”
We’re looking forward to seeing what they produce, and in the meantime, we have these sketches of the underwear for you to pour over. Take a look!
