Review: Speakeasy Briefs

Item Reviewed: Speakeasy Brief

About the product: Speakeasy Brief has a secret pocket over its pouch. In addition to featuring that special pocket, the pouch is contour and provides plenty of support. Made from a 48% modal, 46% cotton and 6% spandex blend, this boxer brief offers full coverage, a higher rise and a soft contrast white waistband.

What we like: We liked just about everything about this pair. We’ll start with everything but the signature pocket. Many times specialty underwear makers focus so much on whatever their unique feature is that they ignore the importance of creating an overall impressive pair. That wasn’t the case with the Speakeasy Brief.

First, the fabric is so soft. Also, the design is great. It’s sort of a play on that classic “boy brief” look with bright colors and a simple white waistband and piping. The fit is excellent, with the pouch providing plenty of support, and the overall construction offering more of the same in the back, too. The leg bands are also nice and tight without being too constrictive, keeping this pair from riding up throughout the day. Now for the pocket (again, we were pleasantly surprised): we were skeptical of how much the pocket could handle and how bulky it would make our junk look. We tried out of the several scenarios for packing the pouch that Speakeasy offered on its website and found them all to work out, and though the fit was perfect, the extra load didn’t make our stuff look too bulky or feel too uncomfortable.

What we don’t like: The one thing that could have been improved on this pair was the breathability of the fabric. We first tried these out at a long afternoon picnic on a warm day, but we found them to get a bit sweaty.

When we’d wear them: At our next music festival, traveling and bachelor parties!

Who we’d recommend them to: Guys want to sneak something by “the man.”

Describe these underwear in 3 words: Fun. Secretive. Comfy.
