Modern Art in Modus Vivendi Mondrian

Modus Vivendi Mondrian

In the beginning of 2015, Modus Vivendi launched the Round-the-World campaign. A series of photoshoots in locations all across the world, the campaign features the work of talented photographers, models, and of course Modus Vivendi designers. To wrap up the global-spanning series, photographer Nikos Papadopoulos delivers the Modus Vivendi Mondrian Line with model Christos Artemiou.

The new Modus Vivendi Mondrian swimwear features two distinctive designs: a swim brief and a Brazil-cut trunk. Handcrafted and made with some of the finest materials out there, the two styles combine the artist Piet Mondrian’s signature primary color rectangles with white and black geometric outlining. Its colorblocking fashion is revamped and remodeled by tracing the trend back to its roots.

Christos Artemiou models the designs next to the Island Santorini’s famous watery caldera. It’s a shoot done back in Greece, the birthplace of Modus Vivendi, and the beginning and end locations of the Round-the-World campaign. The images are undoubtedly Greek — where else could you find such breathtaking scenery? The backdrop of Papadopoulos’ shoot (and the backdrop of Greece itself), the hazy blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea contrast beautifully with the brightness of the Modus Vivendi Mondrian swimwear.

It’s enough to make you look beyond Artemiou’s sculpted shoulders, his muscled, outstretched arms, and turn back to the time of the ancients. He would’ve fit in there—most likely as some marble Apollo carved out atop the Athenian Parthenon. The bright Modus Vivendi Mondrian colors would’ve fit in, too, seeing as the Greeks usually painted their sculptures in vivid encaustics. This is a shoot, then, that ties today to the B.C.E., but as long as we’ve got the Modus Vivendi Mondrian Line, who cares what time period we’re in?

What do you think of the painterly inspiration in the Modus Vivendi Mondrian Line? What about the photos — do they make you want to visit Santorini? Let us know in the comments below or send us a tweet at @underwearexpert.
