Rugby Union: teamm8’s M8 Of February, Luke Casey

It’s no surprise that the second M8 Of The Month this year is another athlete. What is a surprise, though, is that Luke Casey is only 20 years old—the same age last month’s M8, Kayne Lawton, began playing rugby union, or simply, “rugby,” professionally. Ironically, Luke himself aspires to take his Australian football skills to the professional level. He also has a carpe diem attitude that pushes him to take advantage of all of life’s opportunities.

Like most previous M8s Of The Month, Luke mentions a physical accomplishment as one of his “Gold Medal Moments.” He also mentions a trip to India he took three years ago. But the trip wasn’t sports-related at all—Luke was working in orphanages and helping to build new classrooms for students.

Luke is more laid back than other athletic types. He tends to go with the flow, and even has a backup plan in case his professional rugby union aspirations don’t come to fruition. Plan B is to open a physical rehab practice, hopefully with some rugby union on the side.

“Like every good Aussie, I love my sport,” said Luke. “Rugby Union is my passion…”

Luke becomes even more impressive when he shares his life motto. It was spoken by none other than Jedi Master Yoda. “Do or do not, there is no try.” Considering Luke’s first version of Star Wars may have very well been the prequels, we love that his quote came from the original films. This only makes us even more convinced in choosing Luke as our M8 of the Month.
