The Underwear Expert Mens Underwear Blog Tue, 16 Sep 2014 19:00:37 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Underwear Illustrations, Get A Little Graphic Tue, 16 Sep 2014 19:00:37 +0000 illustrated underwear

Color blocking, neutral colors, and pastel tones. Summer neon, stripes, dots, and zig-zags. If only there was a design that incorporated all of them into one unified concept that is fun all around. Oh wait, there is! It’s illustrated underwear.

We’re not talking about pictures of underwear in magazines or online. We’re talking about underwear with illustrations on it. Some of these will be hand-drawn, some will be graphic prints. But regardless of style, all illustrated underwear has some things in common: a unified concept, an image, and a sense of art house pleasure.

We’ve gathered nine brands that all feature pairs of illustrated underwear. Some have one, while others actually feature several. So take a stroll in these and, you know, feel like a kid again.

When is the last time you wore cartoons on your underwear? Ten years ago? Yesterday? Let us know by leaving a comment below or tweeting @underwearexpert.

The Derek Rose Pima Stretch Cotton Collection Tue, 16 Sep 2014 17:30:23 +0000 Derek Rose Pima Stretch CottonIf it’s ultimate comfort you’re in the mood for, look no further than the Derek Rose Pima Stretch Cotton collection, where every item is made from 92% Pima cotton and 8% elastane.

Based out of London, the Pima Cotton Stretch Collection by Derek Rose is the closest you will get to Savile Row because it infuses old-world craftsmanship with modern design. The collection comes in a few styles: briefs($37.50), hipster briefs($44), trunks($48), crew-neck t-shirts($65) and v-neck t-shirts($65). Every style is available in two colors, classic white and black, while the hipsters also comes in printed colors including a Poppy red, a foulard and modern graphic Navy Star and Dutch Star print.

The stretch brief has a closed crotch front for a crisp look. The hipster brief probably gets the most usage with a fitted cut for a simple yet contemporary fit and shorter leg. The waistband is, according to Derek Rose, “secured to the hems by manual welting — all part of our quest for a minimalist, streamlined look and the ultimate in softness and comfort.”  For a much more fitted shape and feel, there is the trunk style with a longer leg with subtle hemlines. This option has an opening on the crotch for a classic style.

To accompany the underwear, Derek Rose also offers undershirts in two styles, crew-necks and v-necks. Cut from the same soft pima fabric as the underwear, these shirts possess the refined comfort and superior fit and feel. The shirts are a great first layer for your tailored suit, providing minimal body contact from its manual welt hems and stretch cotton.

GO Green Fit: Deadlifts Tue, 16 Sep 2014 14:00:38 +0000

Go Green goes back to deadlifts in this Instagram video, but for this workout, he takes his time to maximize the benefits. He lifts 300 lbs. for eight minutes, doing five reps every minute on the minute. If you only ever add one power lift to your exercise routine, deadlifts are the one you want. They aren’t difficult to do once you master the form, and they condition your entire body.

Your lower back does most of the work when performing deadlifts. You’ll want to focus on your hip flexors to get the move just right. And if you use your hip flexors correctly while doing a deadlift, your core will reap some of the benefits from the movement as well. Our advice: thing of your hips like a hinge and keep looking forward.

How much weight can you life when doing a deadlift? What is the power lift that you do the most at the gym? Let us know in the comments below, or by tweeting us @underwearexpert.

Spend The Morning With Quincey Tue, 16 Sep 2014 04:00:26 +0000 quincey

Photographer Barry Marre spent an early morning with model Quincey. As Quincey slowly rises from bed in nothing but his white briefs, Barry is able to capture him in his most intimate moments. Going back and forth between white and black and colored images, we get an inside glimpse into Quincey’s morning routine.

The photo shoot is very sensual because it reveals the many angles of Quincey’s gorgeously toned body, from reflections in the mirror to close ups of his rippling back and sexy contoured clavicles. We are fully immersed into his morning as we watch him get ready from a distance. He changes between a few pairs of underwear to none at all, and even teases us with long athletic socks.

Quincey attempts to get dressed, but it’s hard to when your bed and who is in it keeps calling you back.  After seeing this photo shoot, we would never want Quincey to leave our sides. Which intimate morning moment did you enjoy the most? Let us know by commenting below or tweeting @underwearexpert.

Shop Talk: Shrine Boxers Mon, 15 Sep 2014 22:00:25 +0000 Shrine Boxers

Shrine Boxers aim to keep a man stylish, cool, and comfortable. They are designed with the active man in mind, and they’re customizable. But what separates them even further from athletic ranges of underwear is that they also hold fashion in high regard. Combining casual, performance, and date night, Shrine Boxers are not only for the active man, but the sensible and fashionable one as well.

“At Shrine Boxers, we believe your package is sacred,” said founder and creator Rob Leuffen. “And trust me, you’ll worship the comfort.”

It all started with a wedgie.

“I was stuck on a long and uncomfortable return flight from an amazing trip to Brazil,” said Rob. “But as I sat on this plane, with a serious wedgie, swamp ass and uncomfortable chaffing, I realized that I didn’t have a brand of underwear that could keep up with me. I needed something I could wear no matter what I got myself into … whether that’s an international adventure or my daily routine of going to work then straight to the gym.”

Many men know what it is like to cope with underwear that can’t keep up. They own pairs they know are good for the gym, and others they’ve learned the hard way not to wear when breaking a sweat. It’s true, work pairs of underwear are often the opposite of gym pairs. But with Shrine Boxers, their approach is meant to close that gap. And not just close the gap, but seal it in a unique and attractive way. That is where the customization comes into play.

“The waistband is the most visible part of the boxer, so why not make it as bold and unique as you are?” Rob explained. “There are some really creative people out there, and we’ve used social media to connect with them so we all can benefit from those creative forces. We’ve made it easy for everyone by building an online tool so you can ‘Design Your Shrine.’”

This added factor of customization lets Shrine Boxers provide a product as unique as possible. With that freedom, we can imagine pairs being perfectly versatile at all stages of the day. Maybe you would design them to be more active looking, or more trendy. Either way, Shrine Boxers is the first brand to let fans design and vote on the next style to be made as part of a limited-run production.

“We’ve just launched our first “Underwear Design Challenge” and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone creates. The winner will be picked by our Kickstarter backers and the momentum will grow from there!”

Only time will tell how quickly that momentum will grow. But as an e-commerce company, Shrine Boxers can offer premium underwear at a lower price point and without addition shipping costs. That, along with their innovative ‘Design Your Shrine’ tool, should speed things up.

Would you be interested in a pair of underwear that is suitable for the gym and the office? Do you have any underwear dream designs stored away that you could use to customize a pair of Shrine Boxers? Let us know in the comments below, or by tweeting us @underwearexpert.

Andrew Christian Almost Naked Brief A Club Classic Mon, 15 Sep 2014 16:00:21 +0000 Almost Naked Brief

Talk about a classic with a twist! The new Andrew Christian Almost Naked Brief ($24.93) collection has the classic silhouette of a brief with modern neon touches.

We all know how briefs are a standard go-to for any occasion. The simple, yet supportive shape never disappoints, no matter the occasion. This collection has updated the brief with bright colors and a fascinating design. AC has been painting his latest collections with neon colors, knowing that pop of waistband on the dance floor will shine underneath a black light. That’s why we are calling these guys the new club classic!

Not only are the fuchsia and white colors with neon details fun, but they are super comfy with a 93% rayon made from bamboo and 7% spandex fabric blend. Adding onto that, they have an anatomically correct pouch with fun snuggle fit allowing plenty of space for your package to hang out in. They also feel as if they’re not there so you can dance the night away without wardrobe distractions. Get as sweaty as you want because the fabric is known to eliminate any sweat from the area to prevent sticking or chafing. Have fun hitting that dance floor this weekend in your new undies!

GO Green Fit: 3 Stop Snatch Pull Mon, 15 Sep 2014 14:00:17 +0000

This Instagram video by Go Green shows us a demonstration of a 3 stop snatch pull. Essentially, this is a snatch pull with a 3-second pause period where you stop at the mid-shin, go above the knee, get into the power position, and then pull. This is just another variation of a power lift that is ideal for conditioning your entire body, but the built-in pause adds resistance and builds strength.

If the 3 stop snatch pull is something you want to implement into your exercise routine, try and master your average snatch pull first. As always, form is incredibly important. Once you have the form for a snatch pull down, you’ll be ready for the 3 stop snatch pull.

Do you do 3 stop snatch pulls at the gym? What is your favorite way to power lift? Let us know in the comments below, or by tweeting us @underwearexpert.

Model Of The Week: Marvin Garcia Mon, 15 Sep 2014 04:00:28 +0000 Marvin Garcia

Modeling was an unexpected turn of events for Marvin Garcia. During our interview with the Baskit model, he shares that he never really saw modeling as a career path. He even goes on to laugh a little, and admit that he sometimes finds it to be boring. But what’s really cool about Marvin’s modeling career is that he gets to share it with another model, Nelson Marin.

Marvin and Nelson are currently dating. They were discovered at the same time by photographer Rich Mackey, and now the two model together as well as on their own. Marvin tells us that Nelson has been in the modeling game longer than he has. But just because Marvin Garcia is a fresh face doesn’t mean he can’t work it like the other men.

During our interview with Marvin, we talk about his experiences modeling for Baskit and what it’s like to share a photo shoot with your boyfriend. We also talk about Marvin himself, from his other career paths to shameless hobbies.

The Diëtz Brighton Brief Mon, 15 Sep 2014 03:00:38 +0000 Diëtz Brighton Collection

The Diëtz Brighton Brief ($18.60) is a thin and sporty brief that rocks the ever-fashionable color blocking. The look is made from a thin, soft microfiber blend (80% polyamide, 20% elastane). It is a casual look that pops and one we can image wearing on any given day. But the best thing about the Brighton Brief is the cut.

The body of the brief is a yellowish lime green, and contrasting blue can be found on the leg seams and waistband.

The N2N Classic Cotton Collection in Crimson and Yellow Sun, 14 Sep 2014 16:00:29 +0000 both

The N2N Classic Cotton Collection feels classic, looks classic, is classic. The highlighted teal and yellow looks include a Jock ($16.00), G-string ($15.00), Bikini ($16.00), Pouch Brief ($19.00), Pouch Boxer ($19.00) and Boxster ($18.00). The fabric on each look in the N2N classic Cotton Collection is made from – you guessed it – cotton, with 10% spandex thrown in to make sure the looks cling to your sides and hold you in place with affirming ease. Even better all six looks are designed with that now famous Nhanced pouch that was designed with our exact shape in mind.

Each look in the N2N Classic Collection was made and dyed in-house. That means that quality was a high priority, as was the resilience of the look’s bright colors. The jock, pouch brief and boxer, and boxster each have a semi-wide black waistband with the N2N logo stitched in just below the navel, while the G-string and bikini let the fabric do the work. Those two looks have stitching on the side to increase the hold. Movement is the maximum focus with the N2N Classic Cotton Collection and you won’t be surprised to find that all pairs in the look fit like a glove no matter what you’re doing.

The N2N Classic Cotton Collection is available in crimson and yellow (and also black and white) and in sizes S-XL.

Everyone loves a classic. What’s your favorite classic item? Tell us about it. Let us know with a comment below or by tweeting @underwearexpert.
