Jumping on David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo’s underwear band wagon is former Chelsea forward, Didier Drogba, who just signed a deal with French underwear HOM.

Just like with everything Drogba does outside of the pitch, this collaboration will be completely ethical, from the way it is made to the way it is sold. His underwear and beachwear collections will also benefit his namesake charity, the Didier Drogba Foundation, which aids in education programs and healthcare for his hometown in the Ivory Coast.

“By producing my own line of underwear I’m able to achieve two goals; to design a fashionable men’s underwear range, and to create a product that will directly support my charitable foundation – to aid in healthcare and education in the Ivory Coast,” Drogba said.

His first capsule collection will launch in May 2014 and will contain roughly 18 pieces designed by Ivory Coast couturier Ellie Kuame and HOM. His first collection, along with beachwear, will follow the trends, but comfort is above all else.

Regine Weimar, managing director of HOM said, “We are thrilled to be able to partner with Didier Drogba, to create not only an exceptionally creative product, but also create a product that will have a positive social impact. The collaboration will directly support the Didier Drogba Foundation and the important work they do in the region.”

The Underwear Expert is excited to see what will come out of this partnership, but we’re more than thrilled that another brand is giving back. It doesn’t happen as often as we’d like to see it in the underwear industry. One outcome we can see for sure is the rivalry between Drogba and Ronaldo only building with Ronaldo’s highly anticipated CR7 underwear collection set to drop next month.
