Whether you’re rocking Saint Valentine’s Day solo or with a special date, you’re going to want to look good, feel good and be ready to bring your A-game. February 14th is not a day to wear that pair of plaid boxers you’ve had since 2008. Break out the good stuff, or better yet, get a new pair for the occasion.
Even if it’s a new brief, fresh from the pack, you’re not ready yet! Here are ten important steps to complete before you’re totally ready to face Valentine’s Day at full strength.
1. Clip away tags.
You don’t want your trip to Sexy Town to be detoured to Scratchy Highway. If your underwear has tags, get rid of them.
2. Snip away loose threads.
Sometimes, even a well constructed pair of underwear will have a loose thread. Don’t pull it! Snip it away and be on with your day.
3. Wash according to instructions.
It’s always a good idea to wash before you wear. Read our handy washing instructions guide to make sure you don’t hurt your garment.
While your undies are in the wash, pay attention to what’s going to go into them. Preferences may vary, but a little trim, buzz and conditioner can go a long way.
5. Conduct a post-wash inspection.
Sometimes threads can come loose in the wash. Make sure everything is still in shipshape for your voyage of love.
6. Wait to wear it.
Don’t put your perfect underwear on 6 hours before your event. Set it aside with the rest of your carefully planned outfit until it’s game time.
7. Spritz cologne.
It’s a delicate procedure to get the right amount of cologne up here and down there. No one wants to smell you from across the room. They want to smell you when you’re three, tempting inches away. A dab below the neck, a spray on your deck and Cupid just joined your team.
8. Put on pants and check for clumps.
Once you have your pants on, make sure your underwear isn’t scrunching up, clumping or showing through. These would be rookie mistakes.
9. Adjust waistband.
Proud of your logo? Let a quarter inch show. Keeping it a surprise for later? Make sure that silky lace stays in the right spot.
10. Forget all about it.
Sir Hardy Amies famously said,
A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them. This is just as true with underwear. You put in the work and preparation. Now, put on your men’s Valentine’s underwear and go have a good time.
