Michael Fortes in ABC No Rio

by

Michael Fortes, a Next model, was photographed by Ricardo Nelson at ABC No Rio on the Lower East Side of New York City. The half black, half Irish model is a promising up and comer in the NYC modeling scene and he shows us why in this series.

ABC No Rio is a social community center founded in 1980 that houses a gallery space, a zine library, a silkscreening studio, and various local art projects. Its mission is to promote “do it yourself volunteerism, art and activism, without giving-in or selling-out to corporate sponsors.” Considered a “collective of collectives,” several arts collectives and community organizations regularly display or perform at ABC No Rio.

Michael Fortes strikes active poses in front of graffiti stained walls while wearing Nikes and boxer briefs. Later he pulls on a pair of jeans and enjoys a cigarette–a scene shot in black and white by Ricardo Nelson. We posted photos of Julian Gabriel in Andrew Christian recently. He, too, was photographed in front of graffiti.

Do you think ABC No Rio was a good location for the Michael Fortes shoot? Is graffiti too busy a background?
