Nasty Pig introduces its newest addition to the brand’s popular range of underwear with the launch of its first ever long john (pictured below), which retails for $39 and is available in S-XL. Currently in stores, the long john features the same classic quality elastic and super-comfortable cotton spandex rib fabric as the brand’s classic briefs and trunks.
“The inspiration for our long john started after taking a look at the classic masculine imagery of traditional long johns,” David Lauterstein, CEO of Nasty Pig, told The Underwear Expert. “With the success of our underwear line, the long john was a natural extension. We know a lot of our friends in colder climates understand the value of layers, and this is a great Nasty Pig option for the winter months.”
Unlike traditional thermal long johns, Nasty Pig’s long john is made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex. This sturdy, ribbed fabric offers a smooth and comfortable feel on the legs; the underwear also boasts a sexy contour pouch.
“We know there are a lot of guys out there who love their long johns and who have been waiting for us to bring a set to market,” Lauterstein said. “We tested a run in our store last winter and blew out of them in about a month, so we know the demand’s there.”
The Nasty Pig long john will surely be a classic thanks to its unique styling. The pair is being offered in three stylish colors: red, black and white. The long john is finished at the ankle with a double layer of fabric while the fly is finished with a set of custom branded Nasty Pig rivets. “They look great under our jeans, look good exposed and merchandise well with our other products,” Lauterstein explained.
The style and function of the long john makes them an everyday essential, according to Lauterstein, who explained that he notices a lot of men in Manhattan proudly wearing long johns exposed underneath their running shorts during cold-weather months. “We’re convinced that guys are going to wear the long john with nothing but a pair of sneakers and a baseball cap,” Lauterstein joked.
